Weather you enjoy the crowds, the parade, carnival rides and games or just sitting back and people watching there will be something for everyone during this years Fourth of July Celebration.
I have been to many parades over the years as a long time resident and have biked, drove and walked into town to watch the fireworks with the rest of the families over the years. Hint – ride your bikes if possible and come in on the bike trail system. You can be in and out without having to deal with parking and crowd control issues. You also sleep really well after you get home and all tucked in. I find it allows me to eat that corn dog each year as I reason that I will bike it back off. Its a theory and it isn’t working, but the corn dogs are fantastic.
The American Legion Post 225 sponsors the annual celebration and events begin on July 2nd and run through July 5th.
Parade – begins at 10 am (rain or shine) on July 4th The route follows Broadway Ave, east from 6th St. NW to NW Centennial Drive. It goes North to NW 2nd St., and then heads to Lake St. or Hwy 61. The parade continues along Lake Street until turning right on SW 4th Ave. The parade ends right in front of the Central Learning Center. You will want to come early to reserve your seating area and remember you must have someone in attendance with your sitting area the entire time. You cannot set up prior to sunrise the day of the parade.
You do not want to miss the fireworks display. The display is set off of pontoons in the water and the best viewing is at Lakeside park. The fireworks begin at 10 pm and can be seen right over the water!
A carnival is set up from July 2 – 5th, Bingo runs at the Legion and you can also grab a beer in the beer garden or grab one of the fresh grilled burgers! Bingo begins July 3 (6-midnight), 4th (1-9) and July 5 (2-7 PM)
